The threads and wrinkles of a lifetime are patterned colors in my memory
Freedom, confidence is shot through with a deep azure blue
The red of passion, of commitment, draws the eye, adds depth and interest
The glimmer of joyful sunlight and the bubble of orange laughter surprises, delights
The hazy grey of a lost way and soulless black of grief adds depths and shadow
A lifetime of patterns, of hues, of shades
Join/combine with the textures of the world
Of hessian burlap or silk or just plain old cotton
For life is never just smooth, never just harsh
But a mixture of all grains, all plasticity
All connected, woven into a pattern
The patchwork, the counterpane of what it is to be human
lovely
