When a man becomes a symbol
There is a cost to his soul

No longer is he seen
As a person or human being

The image is greater than his “humanity”
Often tugging at his sanity

As his essence defines an idea
His identity will disappear

He is more than he was
He is less than he was

As his star has flared and shone
His life was no longer his own

It is a heady responsibility
One which few can bare
