The Child’s Perspective

To the innocent child
They were almighty
All the answers
Towering with strength
 Protectors, nurturers

To the angst-filled teen
They knew nothing
Merely road-blocks
All annoyance
Limiters, moderators

To the freshly scrubbed professional
They had been there before
They encouraged, applauded
Ready to catch
Safety net, cheering section

To the mature adult
They bit their tongues
Pride in their eyes
Watched us soar
Confidants, admirers

To me, as I am today
They love, remember
And soldier on
Roles redefined
My joy in their presence, my pride in their accomplishments

…my parents
